Holy Saturday: Waiting in the Silence

“So Joseph took the body… and laid it in his own new tomb… And they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.” — Matthew 27:59–60, 62–66

Holy Saturday is the day in between. The cross is behind us. The resurrection has not yet come. All seems lost. The tomb is sealed. Heaven is quiet.

But Holy Saturday is not just about grief—it’s about waiting. It reminds us that God often does his deepest work in silence. That resurrection power is being prepared even when we cannot see it. That the seed must lie in the ground before it can burst into bloom.

If you are in a season of waiting, take heart. The silence of Saturday does not mean God is absent. It means Sunday is coming.

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to trust you in the waiting. When your voice seems silent, help me to believe that you are still working. Strengthen my hope until the dawn of resurrection. Amen.
