“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” — John 13:14–15
On this night, Jesus knelt. The hands that shaped galaxies took hold of dirty feet. The Lord of glory wrapped a towel around his waist—not just to clean, but to model a new kind of love. Then he gave bread and wine, body and blood, and offered a command: Love one another as I have loved you.
Maundy Thursday takes its name from this “mandatum”—the commandment to love. Not a love that feels, but a love that serves. Not a love that stays comfortable, but one that gets low. The world says power is in position; Jesus says it’s in self-giving.
Who is God calling you to serve today? Who needs you to kneel?
Prayer:
Jesus, teach me to love like you. Help me trade pride for a towel. Make my heart quick to kneel, quick to forgive, and eager to serve. Amen.
