Wednesday's Word

Our small group gathered together last night by our Christmas tree to study John and drink coffee…and ended up talking a lot about this upcoming weekend and Baptism Sunday!

I can’t think of a better picture of death–or of resurrection–than baptism. The public element, with family, friends and church around us, just adds a level of sacredness to the powerful testimony. When we see someone being baptized, we’re watching a physical moving picture of what has happened to that person spiritually!

We are as dead to our sins, represented in baptism, as Jesus was dead on the cross. As He was raised, our souls have been raised from the dead to eternal life. When we place our faith in Jesus, we are spiritually right there with Him on the cross, in the grave, and walking out of the tomb in newness of life.

Wellspring, we get to be a part of that (and welcoming new members and celebrating Harry Easley’s life and celebrating the joy of His salvation and slowing down for Blue Christmas) on Sunday.

Whew!  It’s a great day to be the church.
