Wednesday's Word

Watching that first “hope” candle burn throughout the service Sunday was such a powerful visual! When my own hold on hope begins to flicker, I often realize that I’m coming at Christmas with expectations more than with expectancy.

Expectations leave me weary and discontent. They get me thinking I deserve more, or better! They leave me unsatisfied, always, and wondering if God is truly out for my good. And hope doesn’t come from lowering our expectations or even from having realistic expectations!

Hope holds steady when we come into Christmas expectant. Expecting to find Jesus, we are led in hope…just like those wise men led by the star! Expectancy believes that God is who He says He is, and waits upon Him to do what He says He’s doing. Expectancy is looking for God’s promises rather than pursuing all that cannot satisfy. I can guarantee you this this Christmas: you will NEVER be disappointed when your expectations are on Him.

What He promises, He WILL do. Expect THAT this Christmas, and hold onto His hope!

Pastor Matt
