Happy 4th of July! We celebrate so many freedoms this week as Americans!
Recently a friend of mine came back from preaching at a youth retreat. Planning to arrive around midnight for his 8 am teaching session the next day, his host had told him his room, right next to the bathroom, would be ready for him! However, when he finally stumbled in, exhausted, he found the room next to the bathroom full of empty bunks and nothing else…no sheets, no towels, no pillow, nothing. It was too late to ask for help! So, he spent the night curled up on top of a stained mattress covered by the two tshirts he had packed, miserable and frustrated. In the morning he finally met his host and tried not to have a complaining spirit…only to learn that his fully furnished bedroom on the OTHER side of the bathroom had been unoccupied all night.
He made do with what he had…but there had been SO MUCH waiting for him that he had missed entirely!
There are far greater freedoms in Christ available than most people are experiencing. In our free country, so much bitterness, anger, struggle for more money and stuff, fear and anxiety of death and danger, pride and brokenness and enslavement to idols are being settled for. We can largely do whatever we want…but this kind of Adam-and-Eve-freedom is not the true freedom He has prepared for us!
True freedom comes not from a country or a political party or being able to do what we want, but from the Truth. The truth is that real freedom comes only from trusting in what Jesus did, said, and IS. Whenever you feel weighed down by sin, trapped by worry, or surrounded by sadness, only God’s truth can set you free. It is only God’s truth that changes our minds and our hearts. “If you hold to my teaching, you really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free!” (John 8:31)
Don’t settle for anything short of the life He has prepared for us to live in Him!

- Wellspring KIDS! is in need of volunteers for Sunday school, nursery and Wellspring Wednesdays Kid’s Club! - Please be praying for our nine youth and three leaders this week as they head to Camp Table Rock July 7-11! Please pray that the Lord will move in the lives of our students and that this will be the beginning of His new work in them!
