Core Learning Resource: The Master Plan of Evangelism by Robert E. Coleman
Overview
Session 1, Biblical Theology of Discipleship, explores the foundation of discipleship as revealed throughout Scripture—from God’s call to follow Him in the Old Testament to Jesus’ command to make disciples in the New. This session grounds participants in a robust, biblical vision of discipleship as a lifelong journey of transformation, obedience, and mission.
Primary Learning Outcomes
- Understand the Biblical Foundation of Discipleship. Learners will trace the theme of discipleship from Genesis to Revelation, recognizing its central place in God’s redemptive plan.
- Define Discipleship According to Scripture. Participants will articulate a clear, theologically grounded definition of discipleship based on key biblical texts (e.g., Matthew 28:18–20, Luke 9:23, John 15).
- Identify the Characteristics of a Disciple. Learners will examine biblical traits of a disciple, such as obedience, transformation, fruit-bearing, and relational faithfulness.
- Recognize Jesus as the Model Disciple-Maker. Participants will explore how Jesus discipled others and how His methods inform our approach to making disciples today.
