What is the gospel?
After more than four decades of ministry, the speaker realized that even many faithful Christians struggle to give a clear, biblical answer. In this sermon from Acts 2, he challenges several “muddled” versions of the gospel and returns to the good news proclaimed by the early Church:
Jesus came.
Jesus died.
Jesus rose.
Jesus reigns.
Jesus is coming again.
The gospel is not merely advice for becoming a better person, achieving success, supporting a political cause, or securing a place in heaven after death. It is the world-changing announcement that Jesus Christ is Lord and the world is under new management.
Drawing from Peter’s sermon at Pentecost, this message explores the incarnation, cross, bodily resurrection, ascension, present reign, and promised return of Jesus. It also explains why the gospel we preach shapes the disciples—and the churches—we produce.
