The Church: A Study of Acts graphic.

What is the church, and what is it meant to be?

Join us every Wednesday at 6:00 PM for The Church: A Study of the Book of Acts, a weekly Bible study exploring how the earliest followers of Jesus lived, worshiped, witnessed, and were shaped by the power of the Holy Spirit. Together, we will walk through the book of Acts to discover how the gospel took root in real communities and how God formed a people marked by prayer, generosity, courage, and mission.

This study is open to everyone—whether you are new to the Bible or have studied Acts before. Each week will combine thoughtful teaching with discussion, helping us connect the story of the early church to our life together today.

Come grow in faith, deepen your understanding of Scripture, and rediscover what it means to be the church.

Wednesdays at 6:00 PM

Week 1: Introduction

Week 1 introduces the book of Acts as Spirit-inspired theological history, exploring authorship, date, genre, structure, and major themes to recover a biblical vision of the church as God’s Spirit-filled temple community—formed by worship, marked by holiness, and sent on mission as witnesses to the risen Christ.

Week 2: Acts 1: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Week 2 explores Acts 1, focusing on the risen Christ’s continued mission, the promise of the Holy Spirit, the church’s identity as Christ’s witnesses, and the eschatological hope of Jesus’ return—showing that the church is not called to worship and wait, but to worship and obey through Spirit-empowered mission.

Week 3: Acts 2 — Pentecost and the Gift of the Holy Spirit

In this week’s Wednesday night Bible study, we begin Acts 2—the church’s “birthday”—and take time to tie up important loose ends from last week’s discussion. We walk through a handout designed to help you build a chapter-by-chapter binder for Acts, and we also revisit key salvation terms that often get mixed together: justification, regeneration, and sanctification.

Week 4: Acts 2 — Pentecost, Peter’s Proclamation, and the Birth of the Church

In this week’s Wednesday night Bible study, we begin Acts 2—the church’s “birthday”—and take time to tie up important loose ends from last week’s discussion. We walk through a handout designed to help you build a chapter-by-chapter binder for Acts, and we also revisit key salvation terms that often get mixed together: justification, regeneration, and sanctification.

Week 5: Acts 3 — The Lame Leaps and Many Repent

In this week’s Wednesday night Bible study, we explore Lent and move into Acts 3, examining the healing at the Beautiful Gate and Peter’s sermon. We reflect on fasting, repentance, and spiritual renewal, and consider what it means for the risen Jesus to work through his church as we prepare our hearts for Easter.

Week 6: Acts 5 — Deception in the Church and the Holiness of God

In this week’s Wednesday night Bible study, we step into Acts 5 and the sobering story of Ananias and Sapphira. Together, we wrestle with God’s holiness, the danger of performative righteousness, and what it means to live truthfully before the Spirit. We reflect on reverence, repentance, and the reality of God’s presence in his church, asking how we can cultivate both bold faith and holy fear as followers of Jesus today.

Week 7: Acts 6 — Conflict in the Church

In this week’s Wednesday night Bible study, we turn to Acts 6 and the growing pains of the early church. As the community expands, tensions arise that threaten unity and distract from the apostles’ calling to prayer and the ministry of the Word. Together, we explore how the church responds with wisdom, shared leadership, and Spirit-filled service. This passage invites us to reflect on the importance of unity, the value of every ministry within the body, and how faithful structures can help the church remain focused on its mission.

Week 8: Acts 7 — Stephen's Speech

In this week’s Wednesday night Bible study, we step into Acts 7 and Stephen’s bold testimony before the Sanhedrin. Recounting the story of Israel—from Abraham to Moses to the prophets—Stephen reveals a pattern of God’s faithfulness and humanity’s resistance to his purposes. As the tension builds, the speech culminates in a powerful vision of the exalted Christ and the church’s first martyrdom. Together, we reflect on the courage of faithful witness, the cost of discipleship, and what it means to stand for Christ even in the face of opposition.

Week 9: Acts 8 — The Gospel Cannot Be Contained

In this week’s Wednesday night Bible study, we turn to Acts 8 and witness the gospel on the move. In the wake of Stephen’s martyrdom, persecution scatters the church—but what seems like a setback becomes the catalyst for mission. As believers carry the good news beyond Jerusalem, we see the gospel break barriers in Samaria, confront false views of spiritual power in Simon, and reach the margins through Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch. Together, we explore the unstoppable advance of the gospel, the Spirit’s role in mission, and what it means to share Christ wherever God sends us.

Week 10: Acts 9 — From Enemy to Instrument

In this week’s Wednesday night Bible study, we turn to Acts 9 and witness the transforming power of the gospel. In the dramatic conversion of Saul, a fierce enemy of the church becomes one of its greatest witnesses, showing that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace. As Jesus confronts Saul on the road to Damascus, we see how the risen Christ identifies with his people, calls unlikely servants, and redirects lives for his mission. Together, we explore themes of conversion, calling, the work of the Holy Spirit, the cost of discipleship, and the continued expansion of the church through both apostles and ordinary believers.
